LEE JiYen

Korea Tomorrow 2014

Lee JiYen’s collage is not depicting a space but    accumulating different times. In other    words, multiple time-zones create an imaginary space where fragments of different times exist in the same space. The result is an amazingly spectacle that denies boundary between beginning and ending, center and periphery, individuality and collectivity. Privacy and publicity, and local identity and global identity. Visually she uses repetition, collage, and digital transmutation in order to give ‘passages’ or ‘forgotten spaces’ (elevators, escalators, bridges, and corridors)the sense of landscape and destination. The viewer will see her passages as the accumulation of memories that constantly evolve in this mobile society.
