Korea Tomorrow 2014
Most of the cities including Seoul are mostly comprised of concrete buildings such as skyscraper, apartments and multiplexes. The buildings emanate glamorous appearance but on the whole view, the city looks grey without nature and emotion. People who reside in Seoul live repetitive and routine lifestyle and lost the experience in visual perception. The cityscape of Seoul such as buildings and apartments that are closely packed, uniformed and static materials that shapes Seoul like windows in the building, roads, streetlamps and street trees were geometrically separated, dissembled and expressed in the work. Intricate elements that are composed of lines and sides represent the images of grey city. Using diverse range of high chroma colors and freely placing the elements in the canvas into layers infuse dynamics into the dull and stilled image of the city. A new image of modern cityscape could be conceptualized as the work progress. Through this painting process, visual and social problem of modern city would be considered again.
