BIN Woohyuk
Korea Tomorrow 2016
My recent works are the paintings of printer output, which were produced from the photographs I took on certain landscapes in a forest. Regarding the meaning of a forest and why I paint a forest, I explained with substantial refinement and dramatization; however, the frank reason is that I get consolation from a forest and I can give relief to myself, who suffers mental pain, while I paint a forest.
If I have a bit of relaxation and some financial comfort like others, I would not explain on my paintings like this. But I could not find any other way to relieve my pain or hardship other than painting since I began painting by myself earlier than I began to walk. I used to paint alone in an ancient palace as a child and I felt joy when people came over and said I paint well. Since then, I learned that painting makes me forget pain.
I already knew that there is no need for showing my pain to others. Nobody would listen to my talk on my pain and they do not have interest in me. Outwardly, they try to understand my pain but it is just a ‘pain of other person’. According to my past experience, it is just annoyingness to them, which they cannot understand at all, and it only makes them avoid me. The issue is that they cannot have any solution or give an effective consolation on my extreme pain. It is not matter of their age. They just avoid us or give me superficial soft talk because they cannot figure out the depth of my pain.
I know I cannot get out of this life by painting; however, I try to find the meaning in painting because it is the opposite of leading my life by simple labor. I do not want the state and my family members make me a dayworker. This is the driving power of my painting work.
