The great earthquake of Japan in 2011 has had a significant influence on my life and my art. The continuous tremor of the ground and the dark, all devouring seawater were all too terrifying and shocking. The splendors of city life that were brought forth by economic development may be nothing but a desert mirage. Nature is ready at any moment to swallow down all that is man-made. We just don’t know it yet. Somewhere along the line, this complex emotion of anxiety, confusion and fear began to emerge in my work.
