Korea Tomorrow 2014

Countless attempts to change the world have been done in ways to disaffirm the existing values and add new things on them. The disaffirmation of existing values has also been led to the denial of supporters of such values, which induced conflicts and disputes. It is because of the fact that avant-garde and revolution is based on normativity: Since the reality is not as it should be, such events are embedded with violence ? along with rage. However, if the innumerable outcomes in the world are not created as inevitable consequences, attempts to change the world should be without normativity. I am interested in reorganizing values, casting doubts on such normative structures. In this context, I have been producing a series of works in which a complete structure is deconstructed to be arranged in a new way, randomly created small blocks are stacked without any order to find patterns, which are then used as a rule for new combinations, disused values are revived by exchanging meaning and from that constitute language, and three-dimensional objects become flat surfaces via ambiguous relationship between the front and the backside as I abolished perspective. However, it is impossible to change the world in a meaningful direction by merely rearranging the normative structure into a horizontal one. Such action might be dissolved in equal measures without forming any meaning. In the end, it seems that a certain direction is needed to lead a meaningful change of the world though it is not normative. Or we might ask if normativity is out of necessity that cannot be substituted by anything.
