CHOI ByungSo

Korea Tomorrow 2015

Choi Byung-so erases carelessly, but throughly all printing and margins of a newspaper and sometimes its backside. A thin newspaper is sometimes worn out and torn by his black-tainted eraser, and finally turned into a black, shining cluster.
Burned colors and material make us experience the burning itself. Are all fervent works in fact burning themselves? His canvas gives such an impression that it barely forms the entire format before scattering in the wind. prior to talk about the-ories of modern art, his work delivers the solemn and emotional sentiment which all burned things can give.

Having recently resumed his work after a hiatus of several years, Choi no longer always begins with erasing. It doesn’t really matter If there is a newspaper which can be erased, or only blank paper. His activity-erasing all characteristics, even the traces of the eraser – till nothing remains. His paper work, won out due to his repeated erasing, forces us to guess at the countless spaces created and disappear-ing under the black cluster. After the illusion of all space has been erased, the best illusion of art remains.
